Our guest speaker this week was Stephanie Moutsatsos who along with some of her RYLA students shared highlights regarding RYLA Camp 2025 . RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a program organized by Rotary International that develops leadership skills in young people. Our district participants attend a 4 day retreat in June at Camp Hinds and engage in activities, mentorship, and training to build communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills. This past summer, 120 rising juniors attended the camp which was the largest group since 2019. The Saco Bay Rotary Club provides scholarships for 12 local students to attend. This year we had 9 students from Old Orchard Beach and 3 students from Thornton Academy attend. During the meeting, a few of the OOB students shared their experience and expressed how they learned to trust others, push themselves outside of their comfort zone, and have gone on to sponsor fundraising events for POLIO and increased participation in their Interact Club. Great to see young students get a foundation for future service opportunites in their lives.
